Brain GymTM to optimize dance technique and performance experiences
Robin Kish, MS, MFA, Chapman University, Orange, CA, United States
This movement session will explore the role Brain GymTM can play in preparing dancers for dance technique classes and optimal performance. Currently Brain GymTM is being used in a university dance program at the start of technique classes in order to activate the entire brain system. Warming up and integrating the brain is as important as warming up the body for dance. By completing a Brain GymTM balance at the beginning of technique classes and at the start of a performance, helps dancers be present mentally and physically allowing their mind and body to integrate. Dancers have reported being more relaxed and able to immediately apply corrections in class. Prior to performances dancers report feeling, in the moment or in the zone.
During the movement session the participants will experience a Brain GymTM balance as well as learn about the educational foundation and science behind the technique. The technique is experienced through movement and imagery, with a focus on lengthening, energizing, and balancing activities. Participants will leave the session feeling balanced, focused and energized both mentally and physically.
